George and Elsie Mayhew’s 75th Anniversary

By 75th Anniversary, February 2020, Special Recognition

George and Elsie Mayhew, recipients of the “Alberta Rose Award”, have supported the square dance community since 1957. They served as Secretary, 2nd Vice Chairman and 1st Vice Chairman on the Edmonton District Square Dance Association as well as executive positions in a number of Edmonton clubs as well as the Wandering Squares. They were members of the “Edmonton Folk Art Council”. They provided a square or round dance rug for door prizes to many Edmonton District clubs for special events such as: anniversaries; fund raising events like Camp He-Ho-Ha, Rainbow Society, and the Kidney Foundation; and at numerous Alberta campouts. Even though they no longer dance, they still attend dances and were made honorary members of the Double Diamonds Square dance club.
They were members of the following square and round dance clubs: the Satellites, Beverly Neighbours, Westley Squares, Whirlaways, and Tailt’s Twirlers.
They organized and planned: a caravan to Vancouver, two trips to Hawaii, took part in dances at the Jubilee Auditorium, nine car dances, where a car was given away and one trailer dance.
